Day 23-25:March 26 - March 28, 2018. Last day at Umkumbe Safari lodge and Kruger National Park

Left Umkumbe on March 26th, exited the private reserve and gate and re-entered Kruger Gate, driving up and seeing a variety of animals including:

Red billed Hornbill

Kudu

Charcma baboon

Crocodile

Impala

Waterbuck

Hippo

Lions

Elephant

Hinged terrapin turtle

Oribi’s

Hyenas

Steenbok

Giraffe

 

I highly recommend getting a guide manual ( 120 rand (about $10 usd) which shows maps indication waterholes, points of interests, interesting drives, pictures of animals, etc.

Exited through the more central Orpen gate and drove to our La Lachere hotel right outside the  Phalaborwa gate ( about $100 us a night).


March 27th:

Entered in and out through the Phalaborwa gate- day drive to Letaba and Olifants camps. Skidded and nearly flipped our little toyota over since they put loose dirt/ grave on the roads and we were driving a little too fast ( not recommended!).

Visited Letaba camp’s interesting elephant museum with elephant facts and huge elephant skulls/ tusks from famous elephants from the park. Stopped at Olifants camp for lunch overlooking a river.

Hippo and Crocodile in a dam

Waterbuck

Marabou stork

3 elephants

A warthog and 2 baby wart hogs

Nyalas

Hippo with baby hippo

Southern tree agama

Duiker

Blacksmith lapwing

Black stork

Helmeted guineafowl

Warthog

Giraffe

Nyala

Hippo

Elephant

Chacma baboon

Side striped jackal

Agama lizard


March 28th:

Enterered orpen gate.

Self drove for about 11 hours!

Seriously about 100 elephants ( largest herd about 30-40 together)

Zebra

Ostrich

Chacma Baboons

Millipede/ centiped

Pin-tailed whydah bird

Giraffe

3 lions under tree

Turtle

Ehite headed vulture

Steppe buzzard

Vervet monkey

Lappet faced Vulture
